An Investment in International Development Has Huge Payoff for Flexco and Rory Cole

When working for a global company, opportunities often come about with the promise of growth and development. For Rory Cole, Managing Director of Flexco Australia, that promise has actually come to fruition.  

Since joining Flexco in 2017, Rory’s career has been a multifaceted journey of international exposure. By being involved in initiatives that focus on leadership development and taking part in the construction of a strong company culture, both Rory and Flexco have seen huge successes. 

A Strong Start at Flexco 

Rory began his journey at Flexco in the role of Financial Manager for Flexco South Africa. Thanks to his previous experience in the world of finance, his new position allowed him to dive headfirst into his territory’s financial workings. Naturally, it didn’t take long before his responsibilities, and his horizons, began to expand.  

In late 2019, as the world began to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rory found himself stepping into a leadership role within Flexco South Africa. While parts of team were forced to work remotely from Mauritius, Rory became the point person on the ground, helping to manage day-to-day operations.  

His innate ability to lead in times of crisis was greatly appreciated, setting the stage for his next moves in the years to come. 

Learning from Leadership 

One of the most pivotal aspects of Rory’s career development came from his participation in Flexco’s Leading Ahead program, an initiative that is designed for Flexco employees to further develop their leadership skills alongside their peers. 

As part of the program, Rory had the opportunity to make the journey to Flexco’s headquarters in Downers Grove, IL. While on-site, he was able to build relationships with Flexco's executive team and key members of Flexco’s management, gaining insights into the company’s global operations and seeing firsthand what it takes to truly lead. 

“I was fortunate enough to spend time in the US during my first few years with Flexco,” Rory recalls. “Not only did being part of Leading Ahead help me get more comfortable in a bigger role, but it also gave me the chance to build strong relationships that have made such a big difference in my journey here.” 

These trips also allowed Rory to see how Flexco’s global structure operates and how leadership across different regions makes an effort to align with the company’s value system. In total, this experience was essential in preparing him for his transition to Managing Director of Flexco Australia.

Flexco’s commitment to development isn’t just limited to a select few. 

“It’s available to anybody who wants it,” Rory explained. “If you feel like you’ve got something different to bring to the table, Flexco will do their best to support you. I had always heard positive things about Flexco, so it was amazing to see that if you put in the effort, they will be there to back you every step of the way.”

Now, as Managing Director of Flexco Australia, Rory continues to uphold these values, ensuring that the Australian team remains aligned with the company’s global vision.
